Employment/Job
People with disabilities may have difficulty maintaining employment for a number of reasons that have little to do with their ability to perform the tasks of the job. Assistive technology can be used to enhance accessibility in the workplace.
- Many of the methods of communication used in the workplace have poor accessibility. Telephones, faxes, and email can be modified to improve usability.
- A person's workstation can present barriers to successful work. In addition to accommodations to the computer, other kinds of changes can improve functionality.
- Many jobs require the use of special tools. Some of these high-precision tools are difficult to use with functional limitations but are available in forms that have improved accessibility.
