Hearing
Students who require accommodation for hearing may have a problem with being distracted by noise, or not being able to hear or focus on the speaker. Accommodations for this include:
- Noise canceling headphones to remove background sounds and distractions
- Using headphones with a directional microphone and amplifier to increase the volume of the speaker directly to the student
- Using assisted listening devices to send sounds from audio systems directly to a student's hearing aids
- Providing sign-language interpretation with either an interpreter in the room or through a technology-based service
- Providing real-time captioning of spoken communication, either on-site or through a remote service
