"Sounds Like" - Spell, Write! is software that uses a phonetic approach to help spelling-disabled children and adults spell better. Instead of spelling words by trying to remember the letter sequence, users spell the words based on what they sound like.
Main Features:
- The program starts off by displaying a "phonetic" keyboard.
- Each key represents a phoneme.
- Users can hear the phoneme by pointing at it with their mouse. When they click on a phoneme, "Sounds Like" displays words that begin with that sound.
- In addition, the program removes all phoneme-keys that don't follow that sound, which makes it easier to find the next sound in the word they are looking for.
- As users continue to select phonemes, words appear above the "Sounds Like" keyboard that sounds like the word they are constructing.
- When the user has completed their word by selecting all of the sounds in that word, they will see words that sound like the word they've constructed highlighted in yellow.
- The user finds the word they are trying to spell, points at it to confirm that it is the target word, and clicks on it to type it to the currently active application.
- The program can type words into any open application that accepts text.
- Users can aim at the words in the word list and they'll be spoken back to them.
- Comes with a built-in normal on-screen typing keyboard; users also can use their own keyboard.
