Even jobs that are primarily manual labor often require access to information technologies during the day. These technologies come in a variety of types, depending on the tasks they are used to perform.
- Email programs allow messages to be sent and received that need not be responded to instantly (different than chat). These messages can be quite wrong, but are generally less than a page, and are not formal in their structure.
- Since the 1990s, the World Wide Web has become a primary source of information and entertainment. However, many websites, and many browsers are not designed with the needs of people with disabilities in mind, and special tools may be required to provide access.
- Presentation tools allow organizing information for delivery to an audience in bite-sized chunks and can make complex topics easier to understand.
