Braille labeled or coded

Many people who are blind are able to type on the conventional keyboard using the tactile markers on the "F" and "J" keys to orient themselves.  Others find that having the keyboard adapted for Braille is easier since they think in Braille dots.  These Braille input keyboards can be found in two basic forms:

  • Some keyboards are part of a Braille display as well, and may be portable "note-takers" or may be designed as desktop input devices.
  • Some Braille keyboards do not include any display and act purely as an input device.  This includes QWERTY style keyboards with each key labeled with its Braille letter, and more compact cording keyboards that allow the user to press the keys associated with each dot of a Braille cell.

If a person already has a Braille display or uses speech output to receive text, the keyboards without displays will be much less expensive, and much less fragile.
