Reading Assistance

In the classroom, a lot of information is conveyed in writing.  A person who has difficulty reading that material will not be able to keep up.  There are some accommodations that can help.

• Sometimes, it is the meaning of a few key words that cause difficulty.  A tool that can define words from within a line of text can help, so long as the reader can identify the word causing difficulty.
• At times, the size of the text is an issue for a person with limited vision or other difficulties.  Making the text larger can help the reader with low vision.
• If a person cannot process written language, whether because of visual deficits, or because of visual processing disorders.  In such cases, tools to read the text aloud allow the student to use their knowledge of spoken language to gain access.
