Trackballs
Trackballs are balls of plastic or metal in a sensing "cup." Rolling the ball within its cup moves the mouse pointer on the screen. Not all trackballs are the same from the point of view of accessibility. The primary difference is the size of the ball.
- Large trackballs, more than two inches in diameter, can be easier for people with limited motor control.
- Midsize trackballs, generally between one and two inches in diameter, are the most common sizes for desktop use
- Min-trackballs, less than an inch in diameter, are often integrated into hand-held devices such as rings or pens, or may be integrated with the keyboard.
- Some keyboards include trackballs to provide integrated mouse control. These perform the same task, but with different demands, as trackpad or J-stick keyboards.
