Body Tracking (including eyes) - No contact

Some kinds of adaptive mice do not require the user to move a physical object like a mouse or joystick.  Instead, these devices sense action on the part of the user to move the mouse pointer.  The primary types of such adaptive mice include:

  • Head tracking: Using some sort of camera, and often an infrared light reflection, when users move their head in front of the device, the mouse pointer follows.
  • Eye tracking: As camera technology has improved, it has become possible for the device to see the movement of the user's eyes.  Thus, simply looking at the target can select it.
  • An evolving technology allows the device to monitor the brain activity of users who cannot move.  This brain activity can be used to control the mouse location, or make selections.
  • Other body parts, such as hands or feet, can also be used to control the mouse position through remote monitoring.
