Gaming Joystick

The first application of joysticks in personal technologies was as a game controller.  Today, there is a wide range of gaming joysticks, that can be made to produce mouse movement with add-on software. These may be designed to look like flight controllers, steering wheels, or other specialty inputs.  But in general, they fall into two broad categories:

• Analog controls provide a range of displacements/speeds.  The farther the control is moved, the farther or faster the controlled feature moves.
• 4-Switch joysticks provide only a single speed/degree of movement, with switches for each direction of movement.
