Over the years, as information technology has advanced, the types of input connections available for accommodation have increased.  At the same time, some of the connections that were formerly ubiquitous are now rare.

When looking for a switch interface, it is important to select one that can connect to the device you are planning to control.

What type of connector do you want your interface to communicate with?

  • 3.5mm jack (3) - Some interfaces change the way a standard switch operates, and connect between the switch to the device switch input.
  • BlueTooth (13) - BlueTooth is a medium range wireless connector that must be built-in to your device to be used.
  • Lightning/30-pin connector (4) - Older iOS devices used a 30 pin connector, which has been replaced by the Lightning connector. These are unique to iOS devices.
  • Proprietary connector (1) - Some wireless switch interface devices transmit to a receiver that is unique to that interface.
  • Serial Port (2) - Older devices may have 9-pin serial port connectors on the back. Some interfaces connect through these.
  • USB Port (31) - The USB port can be used to connect a wide range of devices, including many switch interfaces.
